You will join a leading, family-owned German corporation as it embarks on a major transformation programme to become a world leader in the development of novel therapies for the treatment of acute and chronic pain. This role represents an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Computational Chemist to join and potentially also lead Research teams within Drug Discovery.
The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of molecular modelling and a demonstrated drug design orientation. You will work within a small team of Computational Chemists / Molecular Modellers, reporting directly to the Head of Discovery Informatics. You will take responsibility for the design, execution and analysis of the molecular modeling components of drug discovery projects, delivering high quality NCE leads and lead series within the required project timelines. You will also represent the Computational Chemistry group on core chemistry sub-teams, working alongside representatives of Medicinal, Combinatorial, Physical and Analytical Chemistry, actively participating in the definition and implementation of drug discovery strategies. You will participate in the technological development of the Molecular Modelling Group by seeking, advising on and implementing new technologies. Appropriately experienced candidates may take on additional responsibility for managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
You should be qualified to PhD level in synthetic or physical organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or molecular modelling, with post-doctoral experience and significant in silico drug design expertise. Previous experience in the execution of structure- or ligand-based drug design projects, gained in an industrial drug discovery environment, is essential to success in the role. You should have the ability to use theoretical models to solve practical business problems and you should demonstrate a dynamic and innovative approach to research. The ability to thrive in a strongly collaborative multi-disciplinary research environment is essential as well as strong communication skills and effective teamwork.
