You will join a global biopharmaceutical company as a key member of the Biological Process Sciences (BPS) department. In this newly created role you will report directly to the Associate Director, Cell Culture Process Development and will be involved in the development of processes for manufacturing, leading the company's expertise in media development.
You will develop proprietary, high performance and state-of-the-art cell culture media and feeding solutions for the company's platform fed-batch process as well as further fine tune the platform process to specific cell lines and product quality requirements. This is a new role and offers an excellent opportunity for a Cell Culture Media Development expert to build a new team and support the setting up of a new cell culture laboratory within a recently built facility. A main focus will be the establishment of a high throughput automated platform for media development. It is critical that you are hands on and able to execute your own work whilst you recruit and train your team (in two years time).
You will also have the opportunity to get involved in wider aspects of the business, such as representing the company's interests when dealing with contract manufacturing organisations and other suppliers. You will sit on CMC teams for the development and commercialisation of NBE's. An element of your role may involve some travel whilst processes are transferred to manufacturing facilities. You will also be given the opportunity to set up external collaborations aimed at further developing the company's expertise around Media Development.
Educated to MSc or PhD level you will bring to the role experience in cell culture (preferably CHO cells), and experience of working with bioreactors. You will have a proven track record with cell culture media development and in the selection and characterisation of media components. Experience developing chemically defined media and feeds will be preferred. You will also have an understanding of analytical methods and statistical techniques. To be successful in this role you will have excellent communication and problem solving skills combined with the ability to work in a matrix and service orientated environment. Fluent written and verbal English is essential. French would be an advantage and you must be willing to learn French if you do not speak it.
